After experimenting for nearly two months with varying genres of music and manipulating covers to fit the mold of our string band sound, Dank is taking a break from ultra-experimentation to rediscover its roots in New England and Irish folk music. We plan to enter the studio in the coming weeks in order to document some of our past months’ work for posterity, then it is back to the folk grind. We have enjoyed exploring this new ground, and have learned many things about ourselves as a band. Dank has no intention of abandoning new sounds and sailing into uncharted waters, but for now wishes to return to port and gain its bearings again.
Please keep your eyes open and your ears peeled for our new sounds as we hit the studio, and thank you for sticking with Dank… your favorite folk band.

Sealing a sweeping victory for the American auto industry, Jason Wood of Dank has decided to purchase a 2007 Ford Taurus as his next car. It is a beautiful automobile. Many industry analysts agree that the Taurus is second to none in sedans.
Dank now officially and whole-heartedly endorses Ford motor company as the band’s brand of choice. All members of the band drive a Ford, two of which cars are a Taurus. Speculators agree that this signals a turnaround for the automaker, and that Ford’s future is now very bright.

We played our first show at Open Arms, opening for our friends Until Day Break, and it was an eye-opening experience.
That we could perform together and have fun with what we were doing, even if things weren’t going our way.
But a whole hell of a lot has changed in the past year.
We had many hard choices to make, but, in time, we came upon a common ground; folk.
We began our trek into folk music in mid-December, 2007 after a tumultuous fall, enlisted Vanere on djembe, and began our ascent.
Contra dances and festivals came and went, as did band members, and we found ourselves losing sight of the band’s goals once again.
That is, until we met up with Jason, and got the ball rolling.
We’re finally on track to achieving what our goal from day one was: creating and visualizing a new horizon for folk music, breaking the mold on a sort of “new folk”, one we aspired to break all along.
With Jason’s multi-instrumentalist capabilities, we’re able to expand our own horizons and incorporate sounds we were unable to previously.
So now that we’re on track to breaking new ground, we plan on entering the studio before the year’s out, churning out an album’s worth of contemporary pop covers (done in folk arrangement), some original indie stuff, and traditional folk pieces, possibly splitting up the tracks into a double-EP.
As our fanbase expands, so are we, as a whole and individually, in our abilities and our dynamics.
And we want to thank all you fans, you’re what keeps us going.
We’re looking forward to another year of good times and even better tunes.
- Dank

Dank is still on a quest for a dynamic male vocalist. As we begin to explore a more diverse range of music from acoustic-rock to indie-pop and alternative music, the need for a singer is becoming ever more pressing. Although staying true to our acoustic roots, Dank is ready to soar to new heights, and we want you to help take us there. Please contact any one of us if you are interested, and help the music grow.
We love you.

Dank’s been doing a lot of experimentation lately. Jason’s busted out the cello and we’ve been trying someĀ acousticĀ covers of contemporary bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Smashing Pumpkins. It actually sounds pretty wicked, and after a lot of discussion, we’ve decided to explore the possibilities that this type of music might create.
We’ll continue to be a folk band, and will continue to be completely acoustic. However, in addition to our ethnic repertoire, we’ll be playing covers and original tunes with a more contemporary sound.. with our own influences.
Dank is excited as hell about this. We’ll keep you updated.
P.S. - We’re goin’ into the studio.

Being musicians and not really photographers, we’re kind of at a loss.
The band is undergoing a sort of creative overhaul, and in its transition we’d like to accentuate this newness with a series of promotional photos that we and media outlets can use and make us look more marketable.
That’s why we need you’re help!
We have plenty of great ideas for photos, we’re just really bad at taking them, and we lack the equipment necessary to take them at the best quality possible.
Again, that’s why we need YOUR HELP!
If you want help a few brothers in need out and take some high quality promo photos of us, we’d be happy to promote you, refer you, and maybe even give you a generous helping of cashmoney (enough to cover the cost of gas, prints or whatever you do, etc, cause we be poor, son.)
Contact us at our band e-mail, dankfolkmusic@gmail.com, or feel free to contact one of the three of us personally as soon as you can.
Thank you and good day.

Dank has entered the Ellicottville Summer Festival of the Arts’ fiddling contest and will be competing against fiddlers from all over the area this 4th of July. We’ll need your support. We’re scheduled to go on some time between 1pm and 4pm and the event is to be held at the gazebo in the square downtown. We’ll post more details as we learn them.
Wish us luck!
Update: Today’s contest brought out a great amount of impressive fiddlers from all around. We saw many different styles and heard many different kinds of tunes. Out of ten competitors, third place went to… John Siepierski, accompanied by Brian Thompson!
We’re honored to have placed amongst such great musicians. Congratulations to the two awesome fiddlers who placed ahead of us, and those who placed behind us did an awesome job as well. Our performance was somewhat disappointing, however.. both the guitar and the fiddle (which somehow usually stay in tune for months at a time) somehow fell out of tune on their E-strings for our opening waltz! The result was pretty bad. But then we tore the place up with a couple of reels.
Thanks to everyone there who supported us!
